originally activated on June 19, 
1942 at Carrickfergus, 
Northern Ireland.


Reactivated January 28, 
1974 at Ft. Benning, GA. On 
July 1, 1974 was moved to Ft. 
Stewart, GA.

The 2nd Ranger Bn. 
was first activated on April 
1, 1943 at Camp Forest, 
Tennessee. 


Reactivated October 1, 
1974 at Ft. Lewis, WA .



COL James E. Rudder; 
Founding Commander

The 3rd Ranger Bn. 
was first activated May 
21, 1943, at vic Nemours, 
Morocco, North Africa. 


Reactivated October 3, 
1984 at Ft. Benning, GA .

During World War II an All Volunteer group of
young men came together in the jungles of Burma.
From different life styles and every part of the country
they came to fight the enemy, each for their own reasons.
During their campaigns they were apparently forgotten,
frequently lost,occasionally mutinous, and almost always
"Magnificent".
